The Nigerian DJ Association (NDJ) has announced a temporary nationwide ban on the music of Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy. The decision follows a physical altercation between the artist and DJ Tunez, the official disc jockey for Wizkid, which took place during a popular nightlife event in Lagos earlier this week.

The Incident at Obi’s House

The incident unfolded Monday night at ‘Obi’s House,’ a nightlife hub hosted by DJ Obi. The night party event is a regular gathering place for Afrobeats’ elite, but the atmosphere soured when a dispute over song selection escalated into a physical altercation at the booth.

Reports indicate that the disagreement escalated into a physical scuffle involving Burna Boy and members of his entourage. DJ Tunez addressed the incident the following day on X, providing his account of the encounter:

“This N*gga Burna Boy, all signs of weakness. First off, you hit me in the back of my head without me looking, that’s some sucka sht, my boy. 1 vs 10, and I stood my ground. That’s why you collected as well, when I defended myself.”

He later added the teaser: “OGBAFIA NUMBER 1 DON WAKE OOO!”

Burna Boy’s Response

Burna Boy responded via social media, dismissing claims that multiple individuals were involved in the fight and asserting that the confrontation was a one-on-one matter. During a live session, he addressed the allegations using a traditional oath:

“I swear with my mama, if I dey lie make ogun carry my mama go anywhere wey Wizkid mama dey…”

The artist further categorized the physical exchange as “just a couple of slaps” and expressed skepticism regarding the online reaction, stating, “Na Internet Their Power Dey.”

Industry Sanctions and Wizkid’s Statement

The NDJ swiftly condemned the alleged assault, implementing a temporary removal of Burna Boy’s catalog from member playlists nationwide “pending full investigation.” The association cited a need to reinforce professional boundaries and respect for DJs within the industry.

On Wednesday, April 8, Wizkid commented on the situation via a post on X that has since gained significant traction. Without explicitly naming Burna Boy, he criticized the reported actions and referenced Burna Boy’s previous professional ties to Sean “Diddy” Combs:

“Pussy nigga Jump a dj with 10man carry diddy towel Dey dance. I never saw a fool like this, Diddy babe, for my life.”

The references to “Diddy towel” and “Diddy babe” have sparked widespread discussion among fans and industry observers, further complicating the public relationship between the two artists.

Context and Current Status

While Burna Boy and Wizkid have collaborated on successful projects such as “Ginger” and “Ballon D’OR,” their relationship has often been marked by competitive tension. This latest development has heightened the long-standing rivalry between their respective fanbases.

As of Thursday morning, no formal police reports have been filed, and management for Burna Boy has not released an official statement regarding the NDJ ban. Both artistes remain confirmed for their upcoming international festival appearances, including Afro Nation Portugal 2026.
