In April, Nigerian-American Artiste Jidenna whose song Classic Man is burning up the American Pop Charts made our list of Nigerian-American entertainers you should know apart from Wale, and he has been on our radar for quite a while. This is his recent interview where he discusses a number of things, including his support for transgender rights, the Image of his boss Janelle Monae, and his experiences growing up as a Nigerian-American in Eastern Nigeria and also in the States. The interview is creating quite an online “Tweetstorm” and also got him trending worldwide, but due to the fact that he has been misunderstood, we have made the video available for download, watch it before you form an opinion of the young Man,download it below.
Jidenna:- Because when you are light-skinned you are a heavier target for being kidnapped,
Vlad:- Why ?
Jidenna:- Because you’re seen as more valuable, you’re seen as you’re White, therefore you have Money, you’re American, therefore you have more money , if you have more money, you’re easy to kidnap, and if you’re easy to kidnap we’re gonna get you.so thats ..For me being light skinned in Nigeria,in our family, it was difficult, it was always challenging, we’ve been hounded, we were robbed, our Family has been assaulted, we’ve had a lot ..a lot of issues
Vlad:- Really ?
Jidenna:- Yeah and it’s different, you can say this to a family that has a different skin color of a darker skin tone, they may have these same stories or they may not, but for us ( my family ) we’ve always been a target in that ( part ) Country.
