Nigerian singer, Johnny Drille is an household name, with a cult following from his niche market, signed to arguably the biggest record label in Nigeria, Mavin Records, award winning act and a lot more. But before the stardom were the sowing days with tales to tell.
The ‘Finding Efe’ crooner shared a fun fact from few years back, revealing the fee he received for his first ever paid gig in Lagos. Joining the trend which has twitter users tweeting random music fact across several demography over the weekend, Johnny who was domiciled in Benin, recounts getting paid twenty thousand naira (N20,000) for a performance in Lagos back in 2015. He further shared how he utilized a significant chunk of the merger sum on transportation back and forth through Lagos and Benin, and hotel booking.
He wrote, “The first gig that I got paid for in Lagos was 20k (Naira) in 2015. Spent about 6k on transport from Benin to Lagos and back, 5k on a hotel room for a night.”
Johnny Drille got signed to Mavin Records in 2017, after having caught the attention of Don Jazzy with his cover of Di’Ja’s “Awww”. Johnny Drille has gone on to become an alternative music fans’ favorite, win a headies award with his single “Finding Efe”, sold out Muri Okunola Park twice with headline shows.
