Nigerian rapper, LadiPoe in an interactive session on Twitter let’s us ino the creation process of his song ‘Jaiye’, his musical influences, among other juicy reveals.
According to the Mavin artiste, Johnny Drille was on the boards for the production of the instrumental. He LadiPoe wanted a sound with a funky bass feel. But the hook of the song would come from an unpredevented event which involved producer Baby Fresh walking into the studio, during the session. A tipsy Baby Fresh mumbles “Jaiye Jaiye” and for LadiPoe that was it—the hook. In no time, he put together the pre-hook. Got Debbie Remeo to voice the lead hook, the rest they say is history.
The skilled emcee, also revealed his musical influences. He says his early rap style was heavily influenced by Phonte (1/2 of Little Brothers), Lupe Fiasco, Elzhi, Drake. He draws inspiration from nuggets from his Father, Rock bands, Sade Adu, Indie Pop music, love songs by Bob Marley, Drake’s third mixtape ‘So Far Gone’ and Eminem.
