In a clip published on 15th September 2019, on YouTube by Objectv Media, Nigerian veteran artiste, Eedris Abdulkareem gave a concise narrative of the brawl between him and American rapper, 50 Cent in 2004.
Eedris Abdulkareem recalled how he was approached by the Nigerian Breweries to perform in a show alongside 50 Cent, who was the headliner, including other Nigerian artistes.
According to Eedris, he demanded for the same treatment given to 50 Cent.
“Whatever you are giving 50 Cent that’s what you’re going to be giving Eedris Abdulkareem. If you’re giving 50 Cent an executive suite in any hotel, I want executive suite……..”
“If you are giving 50 Cent 17 Don Perignon, I want to have the same thing. If you are giving 50 Cent 17 babes, I want 17 babes”
The organizers, Nigerian Breweries PLC. agreed to the demands.
On the day they were slated to fly over to Abuja for the show from Lagos, Eedris arrived at the airport, and moved to the business class where 50 Cent would be seated, with other Nigerian artistes seated in the economy class.
He was approached by 50 Cents’ bodyguards and asked to evacuate the seat, but he protested, letting them know he was an artiste too, booked to perform at the show. The altercation resulted in a full blow tussle.
Eedris Abdulkareem had to call on lawyer Festus Keyamo, activist Asari Dokubo, Yusuf Mohammed and Charly Boy, the then chairman of PMAN (Performing Musicians Association Of Nigeria), to come intervene in the case.
It turned out 50 Cent and his crew didn’t know there were other artistes in the plane. They were told they were back stage workers by the Organizers. Because they demanded for a private jet.
Eedris said this was done because the organizers wanted to cut down on costs and embezzle the budgets allocated by the Netherlands Headquarters.
“….but because them wan cut the budget wey Nigerian Breweries from Netherlands arrange for the show itself. That’s how fxcked up this corporate bodies managers are”, He said.
Charly Boy showed up at the airport, and confronted 50 Cent and the organizers. But Eedris Abdulkareem said all these action taken by Charly Boy unknown to him was to get money from Nigerian Breweries behind him.
“All that story na basically because Charly Boy wan collect money for Nigerian Breweries hand”
“I no know say Charly Boy done go for my back collect money for Nigerian Breweries had”, Eedris Abdulkareem said.
And according to him, he lost every respect he has for Charly Boy. He called him a scavenger, who is only out to make money from every situation, even in the pretense of activism.
