Seasoned UK rap artist and musician BREIS is proud to release his long awaited and highly anticipated fourth studio EP titled ARISE & SHINE. Backed by lead singles such as the well-received solo rap cut ‘Stay Diligent’ and the newly released fusion track ‘Wahala’ featuring award-winning German Nigerian neo-soul veteran Nneka, the Arise & Shine EP is BREIS’ most important project to date, and it comes released with a special edition blue vinyl, and a behind-the-scenes book that details the making of the project titled Diary Of A Creative Mind.
The 5-track EP flows from the boom bap hip-hop track ‘Stay Diligent’, which has already become a fan-favourite among fans and critics, and the EP’s title track ‘Arise & Shine’, driven by its funky backdrop provided by French producers SLN and Clais Lawrence, over which BREIS implores listeners to “know your worth and add tax”, to the haunting afrobeats-leaning rap track ‘Give Dem’ led by BREIS’ double time flow, and the Nneka-assisted ‘Wahala’ with its excellent reggae and hip-hop fusion, before closing out with the hopeful broken beat track ‘Keep On’ featuring Joy Jones.
Speaking about the inspiration behind his new Arise & Shine EP and how the project came about, BREIS says, “the ‘Arise & Shine’ EP came about organically as a way of dealing with my grief, after losing my mother in 2017. Throwing myself back into the music and my work helped me adjust to a new normal. My mum was my biggest cheerleader and she wanted to see me successful in all I did. One of the things mum would often say to me was, ‘arise, shine for your light has come’, which is what inspired the title of this project.
At the end of 2018, I needed to clear my head and take a break from London so I spent three weeks in South Africa. While I was there, my creativity was reignited, and I also documented the journey of making the EP and turned it into a book called ‘Diary of a Creative Mind’. The EP explore life growing up in London and Lagos, believing in your worth, not hiding your brilliance, and keeping on despite adversity. It’s an important body of work to me for what it’s done for my soul. I hope it can bless others and uplift those that need uplifting after all we’ve experienced this year”.
