Artistes That Had A Slow Year ( ie Had Potenial In The Beginning Of The Year To Make AN IMPACT In 2012 But Fizzled Out )

This is a very controversial Section, because no matter how it comes out, some of the  Artistes mentioned would still take it personal but to clarify what we really mean and explain why in the case of each Artiste, All the 15 Artistes that were listed here all showed PROMISE in 2012,but didn’t quite seem to hack it.I know 2013 is going to be a better year for most of them, but these are the Artistes that “Let their Fans Down” After a Promising Start To the Year.

1)      Iceberg Slim

Released Two Good Singles “Ayanfe” And “Dance For Me” With Chuddy K As Well as Featured Alongside Other Nigerian MC’S on One Of the Biggest Rap Singles Of the Year “Meet Me At The top” By Laylow, But That was As Much as it went for him this year, Next I Spotted him was in the Video of “Your Waist” By Iyanya… Dancing

2)      Beazy

Beazy displayed some initial Promise at the beginning of the year, and dropped two solid singles “Counterfeit” With Chykay And “Go Down” With Jaywon. He Also Shot A Video For counterfeit, and those tracks had potential to do things for him ,but he didn’t do much more than that ( He Dropped “ I’m the Mood” And “Bonfire” freestyle ) And was quiet on the Collabo Front as Well.

3)      Baba Dee

Sound Sultans Older brother didn’t do much this year either, despite dropping quite a number of Singles right after he dropped the Video of his Hit Single Gum Body with Henry Knight, his next single “Go Down” was received with much less fanfare

4)      Muna

In April Ex Most beautiful girl In Nigeria dropped two singles,”Down Down Low” and Here To Stay which showed some promise , but three months later she was embroiled in a controversy with Modenine, which was well publicized and that was basically the highlight of her year, despite the fact that she featured on Djinees first single ( On Me ) Since Overkillin’.

5)      Durella

The King of the Zanga spent more time in the Zanga than the Studio this year, and that hurt me as a True fan.Despite dropping the potential hit track “Club Rock”,and shot a Steamy Video for it,nothing impactful was done by him musically this year, unlike previous years, where he dropped a slew of Hit singles,Videos and collaborations. He dropped “Ozo” with Slim brown last month and the song is more or less an Album filler.

6)      Orezi

Someone told me Orezi was the going to be the next D’banj, and that was in 2010, I was like OK. Fastforward to 2012,and Orezi dropped the Video to his “Freestyle” Booty Bounce which is quite big I must add,but nothing more after that came out of him in 2012,other than appearing on blogs for acquiring new Tattoos.( He Dropped “What Is the Need” in September, but honestly, What was the Need for that track ? )

7)      M-Trill

Trilla dropped one of the Top Rap singles of 2012 “Aboh”,and the song was well appreciated by his fans who expected a Video next, and another single after that, but sadly it didn’t happen as they envisaged, rather Trill dropped two more singles “Blackout And “Anything with Frank D Nero” ( Though Admittedly he appeeared on quite a number of Collaborations, but that was not enough for someone whi is regarded as the “King Of The South-South” in Many Hip-Hop Quarters

8)      W4

I Don’t know what to say about W4 Kuti,but all I have to say is that he did not live up to the Momentum which his Single “Kontrol” created for him,and his next two singles “Like Fada Like Son” And “La Tan” failed to move the general populace, and he spent most of 2012 dressing up like Fela Kuti and appearing on other Artistes records.

9)      YQ

Many music Industry critics/Watcher/Observers have told me that since Da Grin died YQ Has never been the same, Musically at least, and I somewhat agree. YQ Did not do much in 2012,and Chuddy K who was once touted to be a YQ/Wande Coal Imitation has Surpassed him already. He Dropped “Feel So Good” with Ghanaian Rapper D-Black “Sandalili” With terry G, Injection And “Oni Reason” Last Month ,and all Four songs failed to register in the hearts of the Majority Nigerian music lovers unlike his past songs, and the man who was once hailed to be the “King Of hooks” remained quiet in 2012

10)   Kel

Kel was once arguably Nigerias number one Female MC,but her fall from Peak position happened faster than you could spell her name ,and though she is very talented,on the musical side we haven’t heard much from her in a while, and 2012 was no different though she made a comeback via collaborations on “Wantin” Remix by Zee “Ojukan” Remix by Tupengo and dropped her single “Give it to you” with a Video, Kel had a relatively quiet 2012

11)   Yung Hanz

Once upon a time Warri based Rapper Yung hanz dropped one of the best Albums out of Nigeria in 2012 ,and he dropped “Ojuju Calabar” this year, a single which was pop influenced, and I really liked. He didn’t do any more than that unfortunately till the tail end of the year where he dropped the poorly received “Illuminati”.

12)   Blackface Naija

1/3 Of the Plantashun Boiz Blackface Naija who incidentally is a Fan Favorite amongst the 3 has been the least unproductive member of the trio in the last 3 years, and he started out this year by dropping a couple of songs which I really enjoyed, and a Video towards the tail end of the year, but he unfortunately didn’t make any Noteworthy impact in 2012

13)   Olu Maintain

Some of you may scream Blasphemy on his inclusion , but Olu dropped a Hit Track NAWTI in 2011, and dropped a well talked about Video for the song which featured American Supermodel Natalie Nunn, Can someone with a better memory tell us something else Olu Maintain did in 2012

14)   Dr Sid

Apart from being a member of the Mavin Crew on the Solar Plexus Album ( he had the Worst Song “YOLO” on there ) , and appearing on a handful of Tracks by other Artistes ( Most notable being “Catching Cold Remix” By Tunde Ednut ,and Dropping his Single “Afefe”, Dr Sid didn’t do much in 2012 off his own Strength as a solo Artiste.

15)   Jahbless

Jahbless has remarkable Success last year, and dropped one of the biggest songs “Jor Oh” as well as Brought Nationwide attention to his record Edge Records, and Paved the way for Reminisces Success This year( In Our Humble Opinion ).Jahbless dropped “Uku Uku” With Reminisce in September, and the Song trended in Lagos for the Whole day. That was the most Jahbless did musically this year ( And A Little more ) to our utter Chagrin.

Three Most Covered Nigerian Instrumentals 2012

1)       Oliver Twist By D’Banj

2)      Kukere By Iyanya

3)      Gaga Crazy By Chuddy K
