The sounds and looks of suburban Lagos take centre stage as the Nigerian dream is explored in Ikennas new single and video, Suya. The song itself, a solid groove, as smooth and as cinematic as a drive down the Lekki bridge, uses the street food favourite Suya to strike a parallel with the love interest he sings of. Both being similarly hot and tasty, as you would find out in the video. The visuals, directed by Agbawo Nesta, tell a story about the dreams of the masses, featuring luxury cars in what we can only assume to be a mansion on the island, Ikenna, hinting at Alte croons to his lady, sporting a t-shirt tucked into straight trad pants. The sharpness of youth contrasts elements of a lifestyle only acquired by a few of that age, perhaps creating a contemporary picture of the mindset of his generation. Catchy and perfect for the summer, Suya might just be our next jam.
